Safety and limits

EatWell gives general information about food and eating. It is not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and it is not a substitute for a qualified professional.

What EatWell is not designed for

  • Managing an eating disorder or disordered eating
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding nutrition
  • Feeding babies or children
  • Elite or competitive sport
  • Avoiding allergens or managing intolerances
  • Any clinical, diagnostic, or treatment use

If your reason for tracking food falls into one of these, please use something built for it, with a qualified professional involved.

Estimates can be materially wrong

Every figure in EatWell is an estimate produced from a written description and typical portions. It can be wrong, and it can be wrong by a wide margin.

Do not use EatWell's estimates for medication decisions, insulin or dosing decisions, allergy decisions, or anything else where being wrong would matter urgently.

If you have a health concern

Speak to an appropriately qualified professional — for example your GP or a registered dietitian — rather than relying on EatWell. EatWell does not know your history and cannot give you guidance specific to you.

If logging starts to feel bad

If logging your food is making you anxious, or starts to feel compulsive or hard to stop, please stop using EatWell. Awareness is only worth having if it costs you nothing to carry.

Talking to someone you trust, or to an appropriately qualified professional, is a better next step than logging more carefully.

EatWell is not for urgent help

EatWell cannot help in an emergency and does not monitor anything you write. If you need urgent medical help, contact your local urgent care or emergency services.

If that all makes sense

With those limits in mind, you are welcome to try EatWell for general awareness of how you eat.
